Bumper Aman production has been expected in Gafargaon upazila in Mymensingh due to favourable weather.
The Aman field is filled with paddy and the heads of the paddy plants are dangling in the same way. The unique picture of 15 unions and one Pourosava show the same picture.
In the horizon of Gafargaon Upazila , golden paddy fields are only seen . The farmers are passing very busy time to get bumper Aman paddy production.
In the last season, Boro paddy has become bumper production and they got due price for paddy. In this current season , insects ,diseases ,natural calamities don’t harm their paddy fields. The farmers are in smiling face to see the crops in the fields. The farmers hope that the target of paddy production will pass the previous records if the natural calamity does not occur newly. In the meantime, many paddy fields are seen going to ripe and some paddy fields have begun to bloom. Again some paddy fields are about to bloom.
The farmers have dreamt the future to see the bumper production of paddy fields. After harvesting paddy, selling paddy some will marry daughter off and some will marry sons. They will buy clothes for families in the year, bear the expense of the study of the children. They will repay the loan, will meet up the demand of wives. The blessings of nature ,moderate rainfall in time , has become beneficial for paddy fields .At this, they have begun to dream.
In the current season, the supply of electricity , fertilizer ,irrigation , pesticides and necessary agricultural input are available . So, the farmers are expected to get bumper paddy production.
Sources from agricultural office ,it is learnt that 22 thousand and 600 hectare land have been cultivated paddy in the current season. Among 13 upazila in Mymensingh district , Gafargaon upazila is one of the best productions of paddy.
In the last season ,bumper production and got due price ,the farmers of Gafargaon have planted Aman paddy in their fields with new hope. At present farmers have been protected from load shedding. The supply of electricity , without low voltage farmers have got irrigation system in their fields all day long and night. On the other hand, farmers have easily got fertilizer, dijel , irrigation ,pesticides and necessary agricultural input . So, Agriculture department and farmers hope to get bumper paddy production said Agricultue Extension Department and farmers. Many farmers have started to pick up paddy from fields..
Abdus Salam (57) of Pythol village, Fazlul Haque (48) of Rawna village , Afaz Uddin (62), Farid Ahmmed (38) of Charipara village, said, we are getting electricity supply from 19 to 22 hours everyday. As a result, we get irrigation in the fields easily.
Besides, deputy Asst.Agricultural officer are giving suggestion regularly. Saiful Islam (70) of Kharua Mukundo village, Abdul Malek (75), Afaj Uddin Shiekh (70) Khuka Morol (50) informed , getting loss from paddy cultivation for several years, we think to cultivate other crops. Arfan Mea (50) of Kharua Mukunda village of Rawna Union informed, “the production of paddy is well ,If we get due price of paddy, we will become very happy.” But in the last season, bumper Boro production and good price in the market ,with the inspiration of local Agriculture Department , we have cultivated most of our lands. Seeing this paddy crops well , they hope to get bumper paddy production. The farmers informed, there are shortage of labourers. The labourers from other places have not come yet.As a result, it is not possible topick up paddy from their paddy fields.
Abdul Hye farmer of Charipara village informed, he has cultivated 20 acres of land in this season. He expected bumper production. Farmer Farid Mia of Barobaria village, Ramjan Ali and Jalal Uddin of Bagbari village, Enamul Islam of Chhoyani Rasulpur village, farmer Lutfur Rahman of Kodom Rasulpur village , farmer Mahbubul Alam of Rasulpur village informed, paddy production will be bumper if the natural calamity does not occur .
Upazila Agriculture Officer Deepok Kumar Paul informed , we have ensured to distribute fertilizer, seeds necessary agricultural inputs among farmers. for Nabanno festival we don’t have to wait for Agrahaon Month .
UNB from Sirajganj adds: Farmers of different upazilas in Sirajganj district are satisfied with bumper Aman production this season.
Now they are busy harvesting the paddy at Tarash, Raiganj and Ullahpara upazilas of the district.
Talking to UNB, some local farmers said they have achieved a bumper crop this season due to favourable weather conditions and the fertile land of the region. Many of them have started selling the new Aman paddy in different markets at good prices.
Agriculture officers at the Department of Agriculture Extension have suggested appropriate methods and provided seeds, fertilizers from the agriculture extension office. In the last two weeks they have started cutting paddy, they added.
According to DAE, the farmers here have cultivated Aman paddy on around 100,000 hectares of land in the three upazilas in the western part of the district. The yield has been 7-10 maunds of paddy per bigha of land. (1 maund=40kg, 1 bigha=1/3rdof an acre)
Cultivation of Aman is very convenient for the farmers as they need not use much more irrigation, fertilizer and pesticide during this season. Now per maund of paddy is being sold at Tk 600-650 in different markets in the Chalan Beel region, sources said. Saiful Islam, agriculture officer in Tarash upazila, said the farmers here are going to exceed the target set by the DAE as they have achieved a bumper crop.
The market price is good now and it will be increased in the following days, said Saiful hopefully.
