Students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) have announced to resume boycotting classes and examinations from today in line with their previous announcement.
BUET student Antara Madhuri Tithi made the announcement in a written statement at a press conference at the university’s Shaheed Minar premises on Tuesday.
While replying to questions from journalists Ananta said their protest will continue for the greater interest of the nation, even if they have to sacrifice their academic career. “They will make sure that justice is served to Abrar.”
“We will continue our protest till all our demands are met,” she said.
The statement added, “If BUET administration wanted, they could have easily met our demands in the last 13 days, since the protest was called off. General students are ready to meet with the Vice-Chancellor again if needed.”
The protesters threatened to wage tougher movements if the administration fails to meet their demands, it said.
Abrar Fahad, a student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department of BUET was beaten to death inside the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall in the early hours of October 7.
Several Chhatra League leaders have been accused of mercilessly torturing him for hours, and beating him to death, after accusing him of being involved with IslamiChhatra Shibir.
Many other students on campus have also come forth with accounts of severe bullying, harassment, and torture by Chhatra League leaders.
Abrar’s father filed a murder case against 19 people at Chawkbazar Police Station in the evening of October 7.
