Manusher Jonno Foundation, a non-government organization, has published the Braille versions of 13 acts and policies for protection of the rights of visually challenged people.
Social Welfare Ministry Additional Secretary Khandaker Atiar Rahman formally handed over Braille copies of those laws to the representatives of Dhaka University library and organizations of people with disabilities at a function at the National Press Club on Tuesday.
Presided over by Manusher Jonno Foundation Executive Director Shaheen Anam, the function was also addressed by Bangladesh Visually Impaired Peoples Society (VIPS) President M. Saidul Haq, Vice-President Advocate Dilip Ghosh, Manusher Jonno Foundation Director Rina Roy, CDD Executive Director Noman Khan, Advocate Alamin, Jatiya Protibandhi Forum Vice-President Harun-or-Rashid, Secretary General Selina Aktar and VIPS General Secretary Nazma Ara Popy, among others.
Addressing the function, Khandaker Atiar Rahman called for making Braille versions of all laws related to the rights of the visually impaired people.
He said the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) has published the Braille versions of all textbooks from class one to class nine for the visually impaired students.
He urged all concerned to point out if there are errors in those books. There will be no error in the Braille versions of textbooks, if everyone cooperates, he hoped.
Shaheen Anam urged all to work from their respective positions so that the people with disabilities can live in society respectfully.
She said the first edition of the Braille versions of 13 laws and policies would be given to all libraries and organizations of people with disabilities and more editions may be published later as per the demand.
