BPC, IUCN sign MOU for eco tourism

To develop the Eco-tourism, Community based tourism, Responsible tourism and overall to develop the tourism sector of Bangladesh under Bangladesh Climate Change Trust Fund (BCCTF), a memorandum of understanding (MOU) has signed between Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC) and IUCN Bangladesh on Monday at the IUCN Bangladesh Country Office, Dhaka.
On behalf of Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation, Aparup Chowdhury, Ph.D, Chairman of Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation and on behalf of IUCN Bangladesh Ishtiaq Uddin Ahmed, Country Representative, IUCN Bangladesh Country Office have signed the MOU.
By signing in the MOU, both organizations will work together for the next five years to create environmentally friendly tourism, to involve local people in tourism related activities for the betterment of their livelihood and to manage different types of tourism related research in Bangladesh, especially in the haor areas of Sylhet including Tanguar Haor, Dharma pasha, Srimangal, Taherpur, Bishamnbapur, Chhatak, Lawachara and in Cox’s Bazar district including Saint Martin’s Island, Maheshkhali island and Chittagong Hill Tract regions. As mentioned in the MOU, both organizations will support one another in the development of the tourism project proposal and its implementation under Bangladesh Climate Change Trust Fund (BCCTF).
In the MOU, a special emphasis is devoted to the probability of Bangladesh tourism. With a view to conserving biodiversity of Bangladesh and environmentally friendly tourism, both organizations will collaborate to enhance the employment opportunity and in poverty alleviation. IUCN will assist to develop a communication plan for the community people and the tourists as well as set up a communication hub, Butterfly Park, an eco-park, wildlife parks, sanctuaries, green respite, reserves of flora and fauna to promote responsible eco-tourism for conserving biodiversity. Moreover, both organizations will explore ways and means to secure support from other institutions for Technical Cooperation among Developing Countries (TCDC) and Economic Cooperation among Developing Countries (ECDC) framework of the UN system organizations and ensure interfaces through global portals like INRES-SOUTH (Information Referral System-South), as stated in the MOU.
