Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Sunday expressed his hope that BNP will join the upcoming city corporation elections shunning the path of violence and terrorism.
“People are not supporting the ongoing violence and subversive acts in the name of movement. People have rejected blockade and hartal programmes.
I hope all political parties, including BNP, would take part in the elections slated for April 28.”
The Commerce Minister said this after a meeting with a Vietnamese trade delegation led by Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Industry and Trade Hoang Quoc Vuong at his Secretariat office.
He also said, there is no relation between blockade and elections and hoped that the Election Commission will take necessary steps to hold free and fair elections to the city corporations in Dhaka and Chittagong.
“I hope BNP will return to healthy politics through participating the elections stopping violence and sabotage,” he added.
Earlier, the Vietnamese delegation expressed willingness to invest in Bangladesh’s agriculture sector focusing on agriculture equipments. They also accepted a proposal to invest in Bangladesh’s special economic zones.
Senior Commerce Secretary Hedayet ullah Al Mamun, Bangladesh Tariff Commission Chairman Dr M Azizur Rahman were also present.
