BNP stages demo protesting Milon’s death in custody

Leaders and activists BNP’s Dhaka city units staged demonstrations at different thanas of the capital on Sunday protesting for what the party said the killing of TejgaonthanaJatiyatabadiChhatra Dal leader ZakirHossainMilon through ‘torture in police remand’.
As part of the party’s countrywide programme, both the Dhaka city north and south units observed the programme bringing out processions at different thanas. In Dhaka north city, leaders and followers of BNP and its associate bodies brought out processions at Badda, Pallabi,Tejgaon, Mohammadpur, Airport, Rupnagar, Banani, Darussalam, Uttarkhan,Dakkhinkhan, Shah Ali, Kafrul, Rampura, Khilkhet, Bhashantek, Uttara and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar registering their protest against Milon’s death. In Dhaka south city,  
the BNP men took out processions at Shahbagh, Paltan, Khilgaon, Motijheel, Ramna, Kalabgan, Chawkbazar, Jatrabari, Kamrangirchar, Shyampur, Kadamtali, Gandaria, Sutrapur, Wari, Demra and Bangshalraising slogans against Milon ‘murder’. Eelier on Thursday, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the protest programme at a press conference at its Nayapaltan central office. Plainclothes police arrested Milon, also the acting president of Tejgaonthana unit of JCD, on March 6 in front of the Jatiya Press Club on his way back home after attending a human chain programme of the party. He was taken on a three-day remand on March 8 and sent to jail on March 11. Milon was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on March 12morning where doctors declared him dead. BNP alleged that he died due to ‘brutal torture on him during the remand.
