The BNP plans to start all out agitations for realization of polls-time government.
“We are already for movement. Our party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia will disclose the details of polls-time government soon. The other political parties and civil societies also hold the same views. If the government ignores, we will decide what to do next,” BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain told The New Nation yesterday.
The party insiders said that the high command of the BNP is determined to stop another one sided polls that took place on January 5 in 2014.
The party has no intention to participate in any election under the Awami League government.
The BNP senior leaders have realized the fact that the caretaker government will not return to the Constitution. But they want a neutral government, which will take the responsibility of holding an inclusive election.
In the light of this, the BNP is drafting a new formula for poll-time government.
The party Chief Khaleda Zia is now in London for talks with her son and party Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman.
The top two leaders will finalise the road map of next course of actions.
According to the reliable sources, Khaleda Zia will announce the outline of the polls-time helping government after returning from London.
Thereafter, the party will wait for the reactions of the government. The party chief will also sit with other political parties from leftist to rightist, and its 20 party alliance.
She will talk with civil society members to create pressure on the government.
The party sources said, the leaders are now preparing to take to streets soon.
It is said that the party will first ask the government to arrange a dialogue with them to set a outline of a free, fare and inclusive polls.
If the government finally ignores their calls for dialogue, they will bring processions with those demands.
“Step by step we will take to streets seriously. The party leaders and activists will not return unless they succeed,” said one of the senior leaders preferring anonymity.
He said, the party chief has announced two Dhaka city committees.
BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas told The New Nation, “The Dhaka south and north units of the party are capable to stage huge movements to compel the government to meet our demands.”
On the other hand, ruling AL General Secretary and Road, Bridge and Transport Minister Obaidul Quader said there is no chance to amend the Constitution.
He said it recently in a programme and asked the BNP to participate in the coming polls under the current government.
When asked on this point, BNP senior leader Dr. Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain said, “It is not acceptable that there is no chance to amend the Constitution. They have two-third majority in the Parliament. If they want, it is easy for them to amend the Constitution.”
