BNP on Thursday paid last respect to Industrialist and party chairperson’s advisory council member Haruner Rashid Khan Monno by placing wreaths on his coffin.
The coffin of Monno, also a former minister without portfolio, was taken to BNP’s
Nayapaltan central office around 10am, and kept on a temporary stage in front of it, enabling party leaders and activists to have a last glimpse of their late leader.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir along with party senior leaders, including Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and Nazrul Islam Khan, placed wreaths on his coffin and draped it with a party flag as a mark of respect to Monno.
In a brief address prior to a janaza there, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said Monno was one of the country’s pioneering industrialists. “He also established many organisations in his home district Manikganj, to provide people with social and healthcare services.”
Recalling the late BNP leader’s contributions to the country and society, he said Monno worked for the welfare of common people throughout his life. “We’re deeply shocked as he has left us forever. We know the void created through his demise won’t be easily filled.”
Later, his first namaz-e-janaza was held there joined by several hundred party leaders and activists. A munajat was offered seeking the eternal peace of the departed soul.
From Nayapaltan, Monno’s body was brought to South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban where his second janaza was held.
Later, his body was taken to Manikganj where his four more janazas are scheduled to be held.
He will finally be buried at his family graveyard near Hurunnahar Jam-e-Mosque around 5:30pm.
The business tycoon died at Monno Medical College Hospital in Manikganj around 5:05am on Tuesday at the age of 86.
Monno was elected MP from Manikganj-2 constituency in 1991 and 1996 and from Manikganj-2 and 3 seats in 2001 with BNP ticket. He was also made a minister without portfolio in 2001.
Beginning his business career with Monno Art Press, Monno appeared as a big industrialist through founding the Monno Group of Industries. He established Monno Ceramic, Monno Jutex Industries, Monno Fabrics, Monno Attire Limited, Monno Medical College Hospital, Monno Nursing Institute, Monno International School and College and some other institutions.
