UNB, Sangsad :
The ongoing destructive activities unleashed by the BNP-Jamaat alliance have so far caused a loss of over Tk 1.20 lakh crore to the country, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told Parliament on Wednesday.
Responding to a tabled starred question from M Monirul Islam (Jessore-2) during the PM’s question-answer session, the Prime Minister said a total of 101 people were killed in the last 52 days with most of them being burned to death.
She also said, over a thousand people were injured in various subversive activities, including petrol bomb attacks.
Some 1173 vehicles were torched and vandalised while six launches set afire during the period, the Prime Minister said, adding that the railway came under attacks for 25 times.
“Due to these destructive activities, the financial losses for business and trade, export and other sectors are Tk over 1.20 lakh crore,” she said.
Hasina said, the BNP-Jamaat alliance is unleashing the destructive activities ‘to stop the execution’ of the verdicts of war crimes tribunals, save Khaleda Zia and her son from the trial in various corruption cases, including Zia Orphanage and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases, and other BNP leaders from corruption charges.
Regarding the seven-point demand of the BNP chairperson, she said no one of the demands is for people’s welfare. “Instead, all the demands are to gain her personal interest.”
The Prime Minister said, the BNP-Jamaat alliance, in its desperate bid to keep alive their programmes boycotted by the mass people, has engaged Jamaat-Shibir, some derailed BNP men and terrorists in carrying out these subversive acts.
“This is tantamount to capital punishment as per the existing laws of the country,” she said, adding that steps will be taken against those involved.
She also mentioned that the country’s wise people are not with the self-interest-centric movement of the BNP chief.
The Prime Minister said the government has taken all-out measures for protecting people’s lives and property.
