A delegation of pro-BNP lawyers at a meeting with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner on Saturday demanded the law enforcers play a neutral role during the elections to two Dhaka city corporations.
The lawyers, led by Supreme Court Bar Association general secretary Mahbubuddin Khokan, went to DMP commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah’s office around 12 noon and discussed issues relating to the city polls to be held on April 28 and the disappearance of BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed.

Mohsin Miah, Khorshed Miah Alam Mosleh Uddin Jasim, Golam Mostafa Khan and Iqbal Hossain.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, Masud Talukder said, “We discussed the city corporation elections issues and wanted to know what step they’ve taken to find out missing Salahuddin Ahmed.”
In response, Masud added, the DMP commissioner said they have formed a probe body headed by a joint police commissioner to look into Salahuddin Ahmed’s matter and the committee will soon submit its report.
BNP and Salahuddin’s family members have been claiming that law enforcers picked him up from a house at Uttara on the night of March 10, an allegation denied by the law enforcers and the government.

Earlier on March 19, the BNP leader’s wife submitted a memorandum seeking her interference in rescuing her husband.
Masud said, they urged the DMP boss to stop harassment and arrest of opposition backed-candidates and their supporters to ensure a fair election.
He said, they also called upon Asaduzzaman to ensure a neutral role of police in the polls and to ensure that no police official will make any comment will can influence the polls.
“The DMP commissioner has assured us of taking effective measurers to this end.”
