BNP on Friday finalised 206 candidates to contest the 11th parliamentary elections with its election symbol ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ as only 23 days are left before the nation goes to the polls on December 30.
Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir formally presented the list at a p press conference at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office in the evening.
“We’re announcing the names of candidates for 206 seats. We’ll disclose the names of 94 candidates of the 20-party, Oikyafront and that of our undecided ones tomorrow (Saturday),” he said.
He said they are taking part in the election as part of their democratic movement to free Khaleda Zia from jail amid serious adversities.
Fakhrul urged the BNP leaders and activists to remain united and work for the party-nominated candidates to ensure their victory.
He said their party standing committee member finalised the candidates considering various aspects.
Earlier in the day, Awami League announced the list of its contestants for 240 constituencies and set aside 60 seats for its alliance partners.
