BNP directly involved in August 21 carnage: Hanif

Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif on Monday said the then BNP government was directly involved in the gruesome grenade attacks on a rally of Awami League on August 21, 2004.
“Begum Khaleda Zia as the then chief of the government cannot ignore the liability of August 21 grisly grenade attacks that was perpetrated to assassinate the then opposition leader, Awami League President and incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said this on Monday while addressing a rally in front of Bangabandhu Bhaban in Dhanmondi road number 32.Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Teachers Association organised the discussion, marking the National Mourning Day of August 15 and the anniversary of August 21 grenade attacks.
Hanif said posthumous trial of BNP’s founder Ziaur Rahman should be held to unmask his image before the nation as he was involved in the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The veteran AL leader said the evil forces, which were defeated during the Liberation War in 1971, have become active again and they are now hatching conspiracy against the spirit of Liberation War.
“Awami League never fears any evil forces. With the support of people of the country, Awami League will root out all the ill forces from the country,” he added.
Awami League Information and Research Secretary Advocate Afjal Hossain, former Health Affairs Secretary Dr Badiuzzaman Bhuiyan Dablu, Central Working Committee member Marufa Akhter Popy and Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad President Dr Iqbal Arslan addressed the function, among others, with BSMMU Teachers’ Association President Dr Julfiqar Rahman Khan in the chair.
