The BNP is collecting documents of all kinds of irregularities of UP polls. It will present those to the intellectuals and diplomats of the development partner countries, sources said.
The fourth phase of the UP polls will be held 709 unions across the country today.
“The party high command has directed the grassroots leaders to collect all the documents of irregularities. We shall preserve those as reference,” BNP standing committee member Dr. Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain told this to The New Nation yesterday.
He said we have been gathering documents of all the irregularities of vote rigging, violations and irresponsible behaviors of Election Commission.
BNP Joint Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal told The New Nation, “We are collecting all video footages, clippings and paper cuttings related to the poll irregularities. We have presented many of those in our press briefings. If necessary, we shall provide it to the voters, intellectuals and the diplomats of our development partner countries. We want to prove that no polls will be free and fair under the ruling party and under such loyal Election Commission.”
On the other hand Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr. Dipu Moni told The New Nation, “The government has taken tougher measures to reduce UP polls centric violence. It also asked Election Commission to take tough action against every one who is involved in violence.”
Sources said, the ruling Awami League has won 1,378 chairman posts while BNP got 172 posts in last three phases of the polls, while analysts remarked it as `unnatural’.
“We have seen the UP polls as perverted. The bad affect of the polls might be seen in national polls in future,” said, Badiul Alam Majumdar, secretary of a citizen organisation `Shusashoner Jonno Nagorik (Sujan).
He made the remarks on Thursday while addressing a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity over UP polls.
The political analysts said that the results of the UP polls did not reflect the real desire of voters. They also expressed their anxiety over the poll centric violence.
Badiul Alam Majumdar told the news conference that so far 71 people were killed in violence of the three phases of polls.
Though the BNP threatened to withdraw from the polls, most of the senior leaders expressed their opinion to stay with the polls till the end. After a meeting with senior leaders, party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has decided to stay at UP polls on April 3 at her Gulshan office.
Other leaders said the party is staying in the poll to prove that any election under the ruling party will not be free and fair.
Earlier, the party has presented documents related to vote rigging and violence of ruling Awami League men over last municipalities’ polls in different districts.
