Amid tension over programme and counter-programme of BNP and Awami League on January 5, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on Monday allowed Awami League and BNP to hold their respective rallies at Bangabandhu Avenue and Nayapaltan respectively on Tuesday. Briefing reporters at Nagar Bhaban, DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon said, “All have the right to hold rallies. As both parties sought Suhrawardy Udyan for holding their respective rallies, no one was allowed to go for that. Now, BNP will have to hold its rally at Nayapaltan, while Awami League at Bangabandhu Avenue.” However, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has not given any decision yet over the pleas of the both arch rival parties. Both AL and BNP on Sunday sought permission from the DMP and DSCC in black and white to hold their rallies in the capital. Earlier, AL declared to hold a rally on January 5 to observe ‘Victory Day for Democracy’, the 2nd anniversary of January 2014 election, while BNP announced its programme for the day to observe ‘Democracy Killing Day’. –Dhaka, Jan 4 (UNB)
