The BNP on Wednesday accused the ruling Awami League of carrying out post polls violence against the opposition party leaders and the workers across the country.
“The AL men are attacking BNP men’s houses in different constituencies. They have gang-raped a woman in Subarnachar in Noakhali. Her offense was she had voted for the Sheaf of Paddy symbol,” said BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan office.
“After staging a cruel mockery in the name of election, they are now carrying out naked repression against our party men in different parts of the country,” Rizvi said.
He accused the ruling party men of attacking the houses, markets and shops, business establishments and agricultural farms and other assets of innocent people and vandalising or setting fire to those in different areas including Chandanaish, Chattogram and Daudkandi of Cumilla.
Rizvi said their leaders and activists now cannot stay in their respective areas due to post-election violence, harassment and continued drive by police to arrest them.
He demanded the administration to take immediate steps to stop post-election violence.
Rizvi said, “No Awami League candidate but UNOs and OCs got elected as MPs this time.
