An employee of the legal aid organization Bangladesh Legal Aid Services Trust (BLAST) has been gang-raped at a check post in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. The 26-year-old woman is now undergoing treatment at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital. As she is a victim of torture, she does not have the courage to take legal action alone. He left the matter to Blast officials. Meanwhile, several units of the intelligence agencies and law enforcement agencies have started working on the incident.
The worker’s house is in Rangamati. Blast is working in the Teknaf Hnila branch. At present Hnila lives in the area. He said on Saturday he was on his way to Teknaf from Hnila to attend a meeting on Thursday morning. When he reached the check post, the women members in charge took him to the post room. There the male members raped her. They threatened not to tell anyone about the incident when they regained consciousness.
Later he went to the office and informed his colleagues about the matter and went home. The next day, Manik Biswas, Blast’s project coordinator, admitted him to the hospital. “I’m still in trauma,” she said. I would expect justice by agreeing with the initiative taken by the Blast Authority.
When asked, Shaheen Abdur Rahman, Resident Medical Officer of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, said that the female staff of Blast has been admitted to the One Stop Crisis Center of our hospital since Friday. He is undergoing treatment. The intelligence agencies and the administration are working on the issue. Victim swabs and DNA samples were collected. They will be sent to Dhaka for testing. Details can be told after receiving the test report. Shaheen Abdur Rahman said in one question, it usually takes 2-6 weeks to get the report. If there is a case, I will provide that report to the law enforcement agency.
Asked about this, Manik Biswas said, “The incident is true.” However, I can not say anything about it. Blast administrative officer Ali Akbar said on Saturday afternoon that the incident took place on Thursday. Between Friday and Saturday are public holidays. So we could not go far with this issue. But I have talked to a few organizations. Blast Cox’s Bazar project coordinator Tushar Roy said he could file a case after the victim was released from the hospital.
