BSS, Dhaka :
BKSP lived up to the top billing as they emerged champions in the Walton U-18 National Football Championship beating Dhaka 4-2 in a nerve wrecking tie-breaker final held on Thursday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Both teams failed to break the stalemate at the end of the regulation time as the score stood 1-1 and then even the extra time could not separate the two spirited sides and finally the heart breaker shoot out was needed to find the champion.
After a barren first half, the deadlock was broken by Dhaka midfielder Mohammad Raihan in the 55th minute, midfielder M Ismail curved a precise corner from the right hand flag and Raihan leapt high in the air to nod home (1-0).
BKSP players woke up from the slumber and mounted pressure upon their opponents in the search of the equalizer and they did in style.
After a combined move from their own half overlapping defender Jainal Abedin Dipu received a ball thirty yards from the goalpost, he did hesitate as unleashed a thunderous left footer that did give any chance to goalie Shahin Sarder as it sailed into far corner of the net (1-1).
BKSP were unlucky as their goal scorer Dipu in the 78th minute saw his free kick ricochet off the crosspiece. Minutes later forward Rezaur Kabir wasted an easy chance blasting the ball away from the middle of the box.
With the scoreline locked 1-1 the match went into the extra time. In the second half of extra time Rezaur Kabir saw his header punched for a corner by substitute Dhaka goalie Emon Hawladar.
