Bangladesh Krishi Bank is running short of its minimum manpower, puzzling to render service to its clients.
“The Bank is at present without 31percent of its manpower. As a result, it is hard to execute all its functions with 59 percent officials only,” Mohammad Ismail, The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bangladesh Krishi Bank told The New Nation.
He said the bank needs about 15,442 staff and officers. But sadly the number of officials and staff is 9,130 only.
That is why the bank failed to achieve its loan disbursement and recovery targets, as well as supervision of investments.
Senior officials of the bank said that now a days the Bangladesh Bank, the central Bank of the country, recruits officers for the Krishi Bank. It does nothing but jams regular recruitment process.
They said that the officials of the central bank are responsible for delaying the process.
One of the senior officials of Krishi Bank said, “The branches of the bank are suffering for acute manpower shortage. The borrowers also face problems.”
“Every branch of the bank is affected due to manpower shortage problem. The bank fails to attend loan applications, to verify feasibility, supervisions and other official works,” said an official preferring anonymity.
When contacted, BKB Chairman Mohammad Ismail said, “We hope that
the Bangladesh Bank will appoint 70 percent of our manpower by June next year.”
“I am also optimistic that after that the bank will attain its capability and could disburse and recover more loans contributing to the country’s economic development,” he said.
