Bangladesh International Mediation Society (BIMS) has placed a three points demand to the government to make the citizens of the country aware of resolving the cases outside the court to maintain peace and harmony in the society.
These demands are— appointment of judges in the higher and lower courts of the country from among the trained mediators, keeping Meditation Centers in both the divisions of the Supreme Court by amending the conventional rules of the Appellate Division and the High Court Division, and inclusion of Mediation as a subject in the secondary level syllabus of the education system of the country.
These demands were focused from a meeting of the organization’s executive committee held in the Supreme Court’s Advocate Lounge on Tuesday.
It was discussed in the meeting that many countries of the world, including neighboring India, are getting benefits by appointing judges from among the mediators and applying the Mediation and the Arbitration method successfully. It is because, a good mediator could be a good judge and could play effective role to reduce case backlog.
Advocate Samarendra Nath Goswami, founder of Bangladesh International Mediation Society (BIMS), presided over the meeting. BIMS Secretary Advocate Haridas Paul, Deputy Attorney General Abdus Salam Mandal, Advocate Md Alamgir Hossain, Advocate Md Humayun Kabir Shikder and Advocate Afsana Begum, among others, were present on the occasion.
