Bangladesh, from now on, will preserve identical time in every part of the country as the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) has taken a step to preserve ‘Bangladesh Standard Time’ and broadcast it across the country.
Identical time would be shown in the country through Global Positioning System (GSP) via Rubidium Atomic Clock set up at the BSTI.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu inaugurated the Bangladesh Standard Time at the BSTI Bhaban in the city. He also inaugurated newly-built Laboratory Bhaban of the state-run organization.
BSTI Director General Ekramul Haque presided over the function while Industries Secretary Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah, Director General of Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB) Abu Abdullah and officials of Bangladesh Television (BTV), Met Office and Bangladesh Computer Council were, among others, present. Speaking on the occasion, Amu appreciated the BSTI officials for taking the step to preserve identical time for the first time in the country.
“Time is very important for the people for daily life maintaining identical time in online activities including electronic transaction of money has become indispensable for the present digital era,” he said.
Bangladesh never followed any specific method for setting and broadcasting standard time at the national level, he said adding that from now Bangladesh will be able to do so.
