Bangladesh has been elected yesterday as a member of Postal Operation Council (POC) of Universal Postal Union (UPU).
“Bangladesh has been elected as one of the members from Asia-Oceania group of the POC through a tough competition,” State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim told BSS yesterday by phone from Turkey.
She added four POC memberships are earmarked for the Asia-Oceania group while India, Australia and China were other countries which won the position from the region.
The election was held today at 26th Congress of UPU at the Turkish capital of Istanbul.
In Asia-Oceania group, Bangladesh, Australia, China, Japan, Korea, UAE, Singapore, Thailand, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Kuwait, India, Sri Lanka and Lebanon competed for four posts in the POC, that works for different policy making issues.
