301-member central body: BCL likely to suspend ‘controversial’ leaders

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the students’ wing of the ruling party Awami League, decided to suspend some newly selected ‘controversial’ leaders from the 301-member central committee.
“As per the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we have decided
to suspend some leaders who are accused in cases, drug addicted, over aged, married and involved in anti-organisational activities,” said BCL General Secretary Golam Rabbani.
“We gave them 24 hours ultimatum to prove themselves innocent, otherwise we will suspend them and substitute them with the leaders having clean image,” he said.
Rabbani came up with the announcement at a press briefing held at Awami League’s President’s political office at Dhanmondi last night.
Prior to the press briefing BCL president Md Reaznul Chowdhury Shovon and Golam Rabbani discussed the issue with Awami League joint general secretaries Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman.
BCL President Shovon told that they would not only take action against the controversial leaders, but also will take action against leaders who tarnished BCL’s image.
Post-deprived and devalued leaders of the committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL at a press conference revealed a list of ninety nine controversial leaders, who were awarded different posts in newly announced full-fledged central committee of BCL.
Tanjil Bhuiyan Tanvir, Suranjan Ghosh, Mohammad Arefin Siddique Suzon, Atikur Rahman Khan Barkat Hossain Hawlader, Shahriar Kabir Bidyut, Mahmudul Hasan, Aminul Islam Bulbul, Sadik Khan, SM Taufiqul Hasan Sagor, Sohani Hasan Tithi, Munmun Nahar Boisakhi, Ahsan Habib, Rushi Chowdhuri and Afrin Labony were termed as controversial at the press conference.
On May 13, BCL announced its 301-member full-fledged committee one year after it held its last council.
Apart from president and general secretary, the committee includes 61 vice-presidents, 11 joint secretaries, 11 organizing secretaries, 32 different other secretaries, 126 deputy secretaries, 47 assistant secretaries and 11 members.
