A journalist was arrested from Patuakhali’s Kuakata early Saturday for allegedly abducting a schoolgirl.
A team of Barguna police with the help of Patuakhali’s Mahipur police arrested MA Azim, Barguna district correspondent of private channel Somoy TV, from Hotel Golden Inn Kuakata around 3:30 am on Saturday, said KM Tariqul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Barguna Police Station.
The victim was also rescued from the hotel and sent to Barguna General Hospital for medical test, said the police official.
She is a ninth grader of a high school in Barguna, our Patuakhali correspondent reports quoting the OC.
Police launched the drive after the victim’s uncle filed a case against three people including Azim with Barguna Police Station on Friday night, alleging that the girl was abducted from the front of her house.
Azim was sent to Barguna jail through the Barguna Senior Judicial Magistrate Court this morning, said the OC, adding that they are trying to arrest the other accused.
