BSS, South Korea :The Bangladesh athlete produced dismal performance in the 17th Asian Games winning only one silver medal in women’s cricket and two bronze medals in men’s cricket and women’s kabaddi events while the remaining participants in the other 11 disciplines will return home with empty handed.In the women’s Taekwondo event held on Saturday at the Ganghwa Dolmens Gymnasium, Shraboni Biswas and Jalanta Chakma showed frustrating results in taekwondo in the 17th Asian Games as they were eliminated from the first round.Shraboni lost by 0-15 points to Jordan’s Bia Annan Bay in the 73kg-weight category while Jalanta suffered a 2-20 point defeat to Way Chen Young of Chinese Taipei in the 58kg-weight category.Although there was no hope on Taekwondo players, who received Bangladesh Olympic Association’s long seven-month training under foreign coaches but like the other athletes- shooters and archers-, who received special training from the BOA, they disappointed as well. Karateka Shamim Osman was also eliminated from the first round after conceding a 0-8 point defeat to a Chinese opponent.Besides, the closing ceremony is scheduled to begin Sunday at 5 pm local time (2pm BST)in Incheon Asiad Main Stadium.Bangladesh took part in 13 out of 36 disciplines of the Games. The disciplines are archery, cricket, hockey, kabaddi, fencing, golf, gymnastics, karate, shooting, taekwondo, beach volleyball and Wusu.
