Despite taking lead, Bangladesh were held by ten-men Tajikistan when the match ended in a 1-1 goal draw in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Qualifiers held on Tuesday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city.
The match was locked goalless at the breather.
Bangladesh started lively pushing Tajikistan into their own zone in the initial minutes winning a series of corners, among them the second in the 12th minute curved by skipper Mamunul Islam from the right hand flag was punched to safety by Tajik goalie Alysher Tuychev.

After the resumption, Bangladesh took the deserving lead in the 49th minute when midfielder Hemanta Vincent Biswas’s header on a Maunul Islam free kick deceived Tajik goalie Alisher Tuychev and Zahid Hasan Ameli tapped the ball home into the right hand post (1-0).
Tajikistan was reduced to ten men in the 68th minute with the sent-off of defender Ashrorov Siyovush fouled Hemanta Vincent and Korean referee Lee Min Hu flashed the second yellow card to the tall defender.
Tajikistan restored the parity in the 87th minute when with Fathluoev Fathullo fired a free kick into the top left corner of Russell Mahmud Liton’s post from 20 yards out (1-1). Earlier, Bangladesh lost to Kirgizstan 1-3 in the first match held on June 11.
Bangladesh brought up three changes in the match with Munna replaced by Rayhan Hasan, Enamul was replaced by Jewel Rana and Nasir Chowdhury replaced by Nasirul Islam.
Bangladesh dominated the first half and created some real scoring chances but failed to convert any of those in to a goal while Tajikistan also got some scoring chances in the second half and they convert one into a goal.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith was seen enjoying the Bangladesh-Tajikistan match from VIP lounge. Bangladesh Football Federation president Kazi M Salahudiin was also present there.
