Bangladesh wrapped up their journey in seven-nation SAFF Suzuki Cup football tournament with a 3-0 victory over all-loser Bhutan at the Trivandrum International Stadium in Kerala, India on Monday.
Forward Shakhawat Hossain Rony scored two while defender Topu Barman netted one goal for Bangladesh in the fixture maintaining match on the day.
Bangladesh dominated the first half by 2-0 goals.
Topu Barman put Bangladesh ahead in the 8th minutes by a close ranged header utilising a corner pass, 1-0.
Shakhawat Hossain Rony doubled the lead for Bangladesh in the 24th minutes by a spot-kick driving the goalie to wrong way, 2-0.
Bhutan reduced to 10-men as their midfielder Chimi Dorji got marching order following a fouled with Bangladesh midfielder Hemanta Vincent Biswas inside the box, referee awarded penalty to Bangladesh and Rony converted the spot kick correctly.
Forward Shakawat Hossain Rony scored his 2nd and team’s 3rd goal in the 67th minutes to extend the winning margin, 3-0.
Both teams failed to make it to reach the semifinals.
Bangladesh made the early exit from the South Asian football tournament losing to the Maldives by 1-3 goals and conceding a humiliating 0-4 goals defeat against defending champion Afghanistan.
On the other hand, Bhutan eliminated from the tournament race early losing to Afghanistan by 0-3 goals while conceded a 1-3 goals defeat against Maldives.
Afghanistan, India, Sri Lanka and Maldives confirmed their semifinal berth from their respective groups.
