Bangladesh national football team head coach Maruful Haque expressed his high to become champion in the SAFF Suzuki Cup scheduled to be held on December 23 to January 3 in Kerala, India.
Addressing at a pre-departure press conference on Saturday at the Bangladesh Football Federation conference room, Maruf said his boys took part 36 preparation sessions in the last eighteen days camp at BKSP in order to emerge champions in the SAFF tournament.
The newly appointed coach of national team said during the preparation sessions in camp he had an opportunity to closely monitor the problems of his boys and tried to solve those properly. So it can be expected that all of the team completed their preparation with a rather satisfaction.
“The thing which I emphasised during the camp is physical and mental development of the boys,” he added.
Maruf said he also sort out some lacking of his boys in last friendly match against Nepal and worked on it in last two days so that boys would not repeat the same mistakes in the SAFF tournament.
The Bangladesh coach said: “We want to start the tournament with a win as first match win is that means championship is half done…. Afghans are a defending champions ….. they are strong side, but we want to make a good start by winning the first game against Afghanistan.”
Skipper Mamunul Islam Mamun also echoed the same statement by saying that they are upbeat to clinch the SAFF title by giving their best performance and maintaining discipline in each match.
Bangladesh will open their tournament campaign taking on defending champions Afghanistan on Thursday (December 24), play their second group match against the Maldives on Saturday (December 26) and meet Bhutan on December 28, all to be held at the sports hub Trivandrum Stadium. Bangladesh pitted in group B along with defending champions Afghanistan, Bhutan and the Maldives while group A consist Sri Lanka, Nepal and host India.
