“The competition is being organised across the country with the aim of creating new employment opportunities, to motivate the youth in skills on training, accelerate the development of human resource and to develop skills for creating employment in different countries,” said Dulal Krishna Saha, executive chairman (secretary) of National Skills Development Authority (NSDA).
At the divisional level, 66 contestants would participate in the final round and the finalists who achieve the desired score will have the opportunity to participate in the 46th World Skills Competition to be held in
Shanghai, China in October next year, he said on Sunday while speaking at a press briefing at Bangladesh Investment Development Authority’s (BIDA) Bhaban in the city’s Agargaon area.
“Now, more than five lakh foreign manpower is working in the garment sector only… Employment opportunities are not being created in the same way as skilled manpower is being created in the country. As a result, country’s money is going abroad,” he added.
At least one crore of skilled manpower is needed to retain the domestic resources, he said, adding:”In order to sustain the economical growth, the productivity of workers must be increased.”
