UNB, Dhaka :
President of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury on Friday urged the government to quit forthwith and arrange a credible general election.
“An unprecedented anarchy has been created in the country following the January-5 election joined by only one alliance,” he said.
Addressing a discussion, the former President further said, “The government should step aside immediately and hold an inclusive and acceptable election to overcome the current anarchic situation.”
Bikalpa Jubo Dhara, the youth wing of the BDB, organised the discussion at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, marking its 10th founding anniversary.
Referring to Thursday’s Chhatra League infighting at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in Sylhet, B Chowdhury said students are getting killed and injured due to internal feuds of the ruling party’s student associate body.
Sumon Chandra Das, an activist of BCL, was shot dead and 20 others were wounded in a fierce clash between the two groups of Awami League student body at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) on Thursday.
The BBD chief criticised the government for not taking any legal action against sacked minister Abdul Latif Siddique for his anti-Islamic comment. “HT Imam is yet to be removed from his post even after making serious unbecoming comments favouring Chhatra League. Action has also not been taken against the minister who hurled abuses at teachers by calling them cows (duffers).
He alleged that the government officials are widely indulging in various nefarious acts, including making fake freedom fighter’s certificates and taking bribe. “Senior Biman officials are getting involved in gold smuggling.”
B Chowdhury voiced his frustration over the snail pace in the progress in the probe into the Narayanganj-7 murder.
