There is no alternative to raising awareness among guardians and local community people about negative impacts of school dropouts and child marriage to prevent these hazards for building a better society.
The views were expressed today at a post-rally discussion on “Increasing Awareness of Guardians and Local People in Preventing Child Marriage and School Dropouts” followed by oath-taking ceremony at Uttam Hajipara Government Primary School in the city.
‘Pollishree’ organised the events with the assistance of Oxfam and ‘Aram Adhikar Andolan’ (My Rights Campaign) and School Managing Committee (SMC) of the school.
The students and teachers of the school, guardians, parents, SMC members, civil society members, professionals, local public representatives, religious leaders, marriage registrars and elite took part in the rally that paraded the local streets.
Former union parishad member and founding member of the school Rafikul Islam attended the events as the chief guest with Headmaster of the school Abdus Salam in the chair.
Communication and Advocacy Officer of ‘Pollishree’ Rezaul Karim Reza conducted the oath-taking ceremony.
The participants also committed for working together in creating awareness among the guardians and local people about the consequences of school dropouts and child marriage.
Rezaul Karim Reza highlighted the reasons and superstitions behind these social curses that have engulfed the whole society.
He asked the students, teachers, guardians and people of the area to set up an example of rectifying the previous mistakes through preventing school dropouts and not arranging any child marriage with collective initiatives.
The chief guest called upon the teachers, guardians, parents, SMC members, public representatives, marriage registrars and administrations for preventing child marriage and bringing down school dropouts to zero level.
