An attempt of tax evasion of Tk.63 lakh through import with misdeclaration of consignment has been foiled by the Chittagong Customs authority on Wednesday.
The forgery of imports with misdeclaration by Basunia Textiles ensured by the Chittagong Customs while undergoing the physical inventory of the consignment at New Morring Container Terminal on Wednesday.
Customs sources said, Basunia Textiles of Gazipur declared import of 24000 kgs. polyester fabrics from china under duty -free bond facilities and the customs detained the consignment after arrival at Chittagong Port as apprised from a secret tip-off regarding the misdeclaration of imports.
After physical inventory of the container, customs detected 24700 kgs Raymond and Reed brand suiting fabrics inside the container instead of polyester fabrics. Customs sources said the cost of these seized popular brand suiting is about 70 lakh taka and 90% import and govt duty comes to Tk.63 lakh if these clothes ae imported by the commercial importers.
Asstt. Commisioner of Customs Anisul Islam told that readymade garments units are allowed to import raw materials with bond facilities but not finished or brand products o suiting from abroad.
He further said the seized fabrics not comes under the bond facilities category and the importer must pay the import duty of Tk.63 lakh to release the fabrics.
