The leaders of the Awami League led 14-party alliance on Thursday condemned the attack on Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Professor Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal.
A rally will be held at Central Shaheed Minar on March 20 in this connection.
The decision was taken in a meeting of the alliance held at AL President Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmandi office.
Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Dilip Barua presided over the meeting.
Zafar Iqbal faced an attack on March 3 while attending a departmental programme of his university in Sylhet.
He is now under treatment at Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka.
After the meeting, the spokesman of the alliance and Health Minister Mohammad Nasim in a press briefing said that the Awami League led alliance would not allow any extremist activity in the country.
Presidium member of AL Mohammad Abdur Razzaque said that the activities of the militant forces did not end yet.
He called on the government to take adequate steps to control the militant forces in the country.
Politburo Member of the Workers Party of Bangladesh Quamrul Ahsan said that Sharif Nurul Ambia had proposed inclusive next election.
Rashed Khan Menon, President of the Workers Party, expressed surprise at the holding of a meeting of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s standing committee with their party chief Khaleda Zia who is now in jail on Wednesday.
Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Organising Secretary of the AL, said that the government should take more measures to control the price hike of the essential commodities.
