Amid the ongoing crackdown on illegal casino operation across the country, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Saturday warned that the government would not spare anyone involved in corruption.
“Neither a corrupt people’s representative nor a civil servant will be spared in line with the prime minister’s instruction,” he said.
On September 19, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ordered the law enforcement agencies to take stern action against gambling, narcotics and terrorism a day before she left for New York on September 20 to attend the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The minister said, “If an allegation of wrongdoings, crimes and corruption is found against anyone s/he will face trial. The government is taking action against those who face the charges of illicit activities.”
Speaking of GK Shamim, who was arrested in possession with arms and a huge amount of money in Dhaka on Friday, Kamal said he [Shamim] would face trial and the government would probe into more allegations against him.
The law enforcement agencies are now watching corrupt people who abuse power, the minister warned.
“Sustainable peace and stability, as well as security, are the prerequisites of sustainable development and the government is working on it,” he mentioned.
