Terrorist activities: Army-BGB operation along Myanmar-BD border

Members of B angladesh Army and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have begun an operation at Ruma, Thanchhi and Alikodom upazilas of Bandarban on Bangladesh-Myanmar border to control terrorist activities.
BGB’s Sector Commander of Bandarban Colonel Ataur Rahman confirming the news said although the operation is being conducted in the border area, it is a regular operation of the security forces.
Sources at the BGB said, the operation began on Sunday morning and it will continue until July 14. The operation will cover 135 kilometers border of Bangladesh with Myanmar.
The sources also said that over four hundred members of Army and BGB from Bandarban Army Region, battalions of Balipara of Ruma and Alikodom joined the operation.
The operation began at the border area on the information that separatist rebels have become active in the Bangladesh-Myanmar border. The BGB earlier in June also conducted an operation at the Bangladesh-Myanmar border in Naikhayngchari upazila.
Colonel Ataur Rahman said they are conducting the operation in a bid to control the terrorist activities and stop the smuggling of drugs and illegal arms across the border.
Earlier, India last week also conducted military operation to check separatist rebels in that country’s northeastern borders with Myanmar.
