A gang of armed men robbed passengers of Soudia Paribahan bus at Chakaria on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar Highway early Friday.
The robbers, who boarded the bus acting as passengers, shot two passengers and injured 15 others by beating them.
The two bullet-hit people were rushed to Ramu Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital.
One passenger Abdullah Al Mamun, 27, who was shot directly in the abdomen, is in a critical condition and would be taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
Besides, another passenger, Rakib Uddin, 30, was also shot in the hand by the armed robbers.
According to passengers, the armed robbers took hostages at gunpoint and looted cash, mobile phones and gold ornaments.
The robbery took place at around 3:30am on Friday. Other than the seven robbers, there were 37 passengers on the bus.
Billal Hossain, 26, a passenger of the bus, filed a case in this connection with Chakaria police station.
Nur-E-Khoda Siddiqui, Sub-Inspector of Chakaria police station and also the investigation officer of the case, said the amount of money, jewelleries and the number of mobile phones lost can be ascertained after a detailed investigation.
Police questioned three people to know the details of the incident.
