Members of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested the chief of Intelligence wing of banned Islamist outfit Ansar Al-Islam from port city Chittagong on Tuesday.
Sources at the CTTC unit said based on secret information, a special team of the anti-crime unit raided the East Gate of Chittagong Medical College
Hospital at around 12:30 pm and arrested Md Shiekh Abdullaj alias Jubayer alias Javed alias Abu Omayer, 27.
sAbdullah is an active member of the extremist militant group and also ‘Shura member’ of the organization. He was involved in the killings of blogger Julhas Mannan, Tonmoy, Nazimuddin Samad and Ovijit Ray.
Abdullah was brought to Dhaka and during preliminary interrogation, he reportedly revealed that he joined Ansar Al-Islam in 2013. He was involved in inviting youths to join the organization across the country and he was chief of intelligence wing of the militant group. He also gave information related to the blogger killings.
