The inauguration ceremony of Amphibious House was held at Sirajganj on Sunday. The event was jointly organised by “Arabianizing Deltas of the World” project of Netherlands, “Core Bangladesh Project” of Bangladesh University of Engineering (BUET) and IHE, Delft, Netherlands.
Md. Reyaz Uddin, Chairman, Upazilla Parishad, Sirajganj Sadar was present as chief guest while Md. Shofiqul Islam, Executive Engineer, BWDB, Sirajganj and Md. Abdur Rahim, DRRO, Sirajganj were present as special guests. Chief project leaders of CORE Bangladesh Dr M Shah Alam Khan, Professor, Institute of Water and Flood Management (IWFM), BUET and Professor Christiaan Zevenbergen, IHE Delft, Netherlands were present on the occasion.
For the first time in Bangladesh, Amphibious House is made in Sirajganj which will float in water while flood will enters into the land, again when flood has gone automatically it will set on the ground surface at the same place. This type of intervention is first time in Bangladesh where research partner is BUET as well as the Urbanizing Deltas of the World project CORE Bangladesh.
Among others, national and international students from WetSkill Event, CORE Bangladesh Project team; local NGO partner, SHARP; local farmers; Workshop mechanics, factory owners and flood- affected community of Sirajganj were also present on the occasion.
