Health Minister Zahid Malik has said there is nothing to be worried about dengue as there is no country in the world where there is no dengue.
“There’s no country in the world where dengue doesn’t prevail. Singapore is the cleanliest city of the world but dengue is common there. Dengue outbreak is common in the USA, India, Malaysia, and Indonesia. So, there’s nothing to be worried about it.”
The minister said this while speaking at a meeting on recent issues and observance of the National Mourning Day at Gorpara in the town on Sunday night.
He said the government has taken necessary measures to prevent dengue.
“Conspiracies are going on centering dengue. The dengue situation is now under control. New insecticides are being imported which
will be helpful to control Adese mosquito,” he said.
Deputy commissioners and civil surgeons have already been asked to take steps as dengue may spread further across the country during Eid, he said.
Momtaz Begum, MP, Zila Awami League President Golam Mohiuddin and Superintendent of Police Rifat Rahman Shamim, were, among others, present at the meeting held with Deputy Commissioner SM Ferdous in the chair.
According to the Health Emergency Operations Centre of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 18 dengue patients died, all in the capital, and a total of 24,804 people were hospitalised across the country with dengue since 1 January.
At least 6,858 patients, including children, are undergoing treatment at hospitals now, while the rest were discharged after treatment, it said.
