UNB, Dhaka :
Stating that the government has got crazy seeing the mass wave in favour of BNP-backed candidates in the city polls, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Tuesday claimed that the ruling party men attacked her motorcade on Monday with a motive to kill her.
“Bullets were sprayed towards my vehicles yesterday (Monday) in a bid to kill me. The bullet scratches are still visible there on my vehicle,” she said.
The BNP chief came up with the remarks while addressing a wayside rally during her electioneering in front of Twin Tower market in Shnatingar area.
Earlier, she went out for carrying out electioneering for the fourth consecutive day to seek votes for her party-backed mayoral candidates.
Coming out of her residence around 5:20 pm, Khaleda started her campaign from Shahjahanpur bagging votes for her-party blessed Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayoral candidate Mirza Abbas.
From Shahjahanpur, she went to Twin Tower market and campaigned there for Abbas.
In her brief address in front of the market, Khaleda said they have joined the elections to three city corporations as they earlier joined local government body polls.
“This illegal and repressive regime had thought BNP would not participate in the polls. As a mass wave created in favour of BNP in Dhaka south and north cities, the government has gone mad,” she said.
The BNP chief urged people to cast their votes for Mirza Abbas, Tabith Awal and Manjur Alam in the three cities to give a befitting reply to the attack on her.
A group of miscreants attacked Khaleda Zia’s motorcade during her electioneering in the city’s Karwanbazar area in favour of her party-backed Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayoral candidate Tabith Awal on Monday afternoon.
About the assaults on women on Dhaka University campus on Pahela Baishakh, Khaleda said no one in the country is now safe in the hands of the current autocratic government. “I want to tell the mothers and sisters to be alert. Otherwise, you and your children won’t remain safe in the hands of this regime.”
Referring to the disappearance of BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed, she said law enforcers picked him up. “The government has link with the incident.”
