UNB, Dhaka :BNP senior leader Hafizuddin Ahmed on Wednesday said attacking remarks by the ruling party leaders against Chief Justice SK Sinha over his comment on writing judgement after retirement is shameful for the nation.”The ruling party leaders are making remarks attacking the Chief Justice in parliament and outside… Such attitude towards the country’ s Chief Justice is a shameful matter for the nation,” he said.Hafiz, a BNP vice chairman, came up with the remarks while addressing a discussion arranged by ‘All Community Forum’, a pro-BNP platform, at the Jatiya Press Club.Recently, the Chief Justice said some judges make unusual delays in writing their verdicts while others continue to write that even long after their retirement, which goes against the law and the constitution.BNP quickly cashed in on the Chief Justice’s statement and said the 15th amendment to the constitution revoking the caretaker government system is illegal as it was done based on such a judgment. In the wake of the controversy triggered by the CJ’s remarks, Law Minister Anisul Huq on Tuesday told Parliament that writing verdicts by the High Court judges after their retirement is not unconstitutional or illegal.Awami League MP Suranjit Sengupta said holding the office of the Chief Justice, SK Sinha has created tension in national politics, which is unacceptable.Hafiz said, the ruling party men are now making unguarded remarks as the state mechanism has got collapsed.Turning to the filing of a sedition case against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia for her comment about the number of the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War, the BNP leader said their was no seditious element in Khaleda’s statement.Hafiz said, not only the country’s people but also the entire world has got surprised for filing the sedition case against the BNP chief over her political remarks.Separately, speaking at a doa and milad mahfil, BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the Chief Justice through his comment on writing judgment after retirement has reflected the sentiment of the people.Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal arranged the programme at the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, seeking salvation of the departed soul of BNP chairperson’s younger son Arafat Rahman Koko, marking his first death anniversary.Rizvi said SK Sinha’s comment put the government into an uncomfortable situation. “That’s why Law Minister Anisul Huq said the chief Justice made the comment out of his frustration. We want to ask the law minister whether the Chief Justice has lacked enough knowledge of law. If so, then how you made him the country’s Chief Justice?”
