About two thousand students may not be able to take part in this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations for mistakes in Admit and Registration cards.
As a result the fate of the students has become uncertain.
The guardians and the students blamed the Dhaka Education Board for the unwanted mistakes, but the Board officials rejected it outright and held the respective institutions responsible.
The guardians and the students swarmed into the Dhaka Education Board premises on Thursday and waited in long queues for correction of admit cards.
As many as 350 students registered their names for the HSC examination from Kumudini Government College in Tangail district. Of them, eight students did not get admit cards and many others got the cards with spelling mistakes of their fathers and mothers’ names and age.
Sohrab Hossain, an Office Assistant of the college, told The New Nation that he has been waiting since Tuesday for correction. “I have been requesting the Board officials to correct the Admit cards. But they are yet to respond to my call,” he said.
Abdul Malek, a teacher of Imperial College, told this correspondent that a total of 16 HSC examinees of his college did not get their Admit cards as yet. As a result, they have been shattered and perplexed.
SM Alauddin, a teacher of Bhawal Mirzapur Degree College, said, the board made mistakes. The Board officials have made female student male and male student female.
In view of this , he said, the students would face tremendous problems in taking part in the examinations.
Chairman of Dhaka Education Board Professor Mahabubur Rahman admitted their mistakes saying that the officials of the Board have been trying to correct the mistakes.
No student will be left out of the examinations, he assured.
The Chairman also blamed the institutions for their failure to register the names of the students
even after enhancement of time several times.
Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent examinations will begin on Sunday across the country.
A total of 11,83,686 examinees have enrolled themselves for the examinations. Of them, 9,82,783 students will sit for the examinations under eight general Education Boards and 99,320 students will appear in Alim examinations under the Madrassah Board.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid disclosed the information in a press briefing at Secretariat on Thursday.
The Minister also hoped that the examination would be held in peaceful manner.
The examinations will be held in two shifts from 10:00am to 1:00pm and 2:00pm to 5:00pm. The detailed schedule of the examination will be available on the Education Ministry website.
