A Dhaka court yesterday fixed July 3 to record the depositions of the witnesses in the film actor Sohel Roy Chodhury murder case.
Judge Zakir Hossain of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-2 of Dhaka passed the order on Wednesday.
Earlier, the then SI Farid Uddin was directed to submit the case docket to the court on Wednesday. But, he neither appeared in the court nor sent the case docket to the court. As such, the court directed the Metropolitan Public Prosecutor and the Public Prosecutor of the concerned tribunal to submit the constituents of the case docket in the court on the same day (July 3).
Additional Public Prosecutor Sadia Afrin Shilpi of the tribunal told the media.
On December 18, 1998, popular actor Sohel Chowdhury was shot dead by some miscreants at Trumps Club in Abedin Tower at the capital’s Banani Road 17. His brother Touhidul Islam Chowdhury filed the murder case with Gulshan Police Station.
Of the accused, Tariq Sayeed Mamun, now in jail, was produced in the court while accused Adnan Siddiqui and Faruque Abbasi are now on bail.
Two accused businessmen Aziz Mohammad Bhai and owner of Trums Club Afakul Islam alias Bunty Islam were shown ‘fugitives’ in the case. Three other fugitives are top terrorist Sanzidul Islam Imon, Businessman Selim Khan and Harunur Rashid alias Leather Liton alias Boss Liton.
Meanwhile, on April 5, RAB arrested top terrorist Ashish Roy Chowdhury alias Bottle Chowdhury from his Gulshan residence in the case and seized 17 bottles of foreign liquor from there. The tribunal rejected his bail petition for the second time on April 25.
On July 30, 1999, Detective Branch Assistant Police Commissioner Abul Kashem Bepari submitted the charge sheet of the case to the court against nine people.
