Noted actor Abdul Kader lost his battle with cancer on Saturday morning. He was 69. Abdul
Kader, who was diagnosed with
stage IV cancer, breathed his
last at Evercare Hospital in
the capital at 8:20am.
The admired actor Abdul Kader, well-known for playing iconic comedy characters, had been
suffering from cancer and returned home from an Indian hospital in Chennai on December 20. Afterward, he was admitted
to Evercare Hospital in the
capital. He was tested positive for Covid-19 on December 21.
On December 6, Abdul Kader was taken to Christian Medical College Hospital in Chennai after falling seriously ill as a tumor was detected after a computerised tomography scan of his entire body. He was taken to different hospitals in Dhaka before being taken to India. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed her deep shock and sorrow at the death of Abdul Kader. Kader’s first namaj-e-janaza was held at Mirpur DOHS Central Mosque after Zohr prayer. His body was taken to Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy at 3:30pm where his second janaza was held. The actor was buried in the evening after the 3rd janaza at Banani Graveyard.
Abdul Kader became a popular face among television viewers, after playing the most
talked-about character in the drama serial Kothao Keu Nei and the movie Wrong Number.
Abdul Kader was born in Sonarang village in Tongibari Upazila of Munshiganj. He started his acting career by playing the role of Amol in a drama Dakghor written by Rabindranath Tagore. He also served as the drama secretary of Hazi Muhammad Mohsin Hall Students’ Association
at University of Dhaka. He started acting in television dramas in 1972. Besides acting, Abdul Kader also worked for Bata Shoes for many years in the 80s.
