Police in a drive arrested the accused in a case for raping a schoolgirl in Laxmipur from Eidgah Bou Bazar area in Chittagong district early on Friday.
Tipped-off, a team of Laxmipur police and Chittagong police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Jamal Uddin, Joint Convener of the Charshahi union unit of Juba League in Sadar upazila early in the morning, said Ganesh Chandra Shill, In-Charge of Daserhat police camp.
After primary interrogation, Jamal admitted his involvement in the incident, said police.
On April 16, Jamal violated the schoolgirl after tricking her into getting into his house at Daserhat village in sadar upazila around 8:30 pm.
