This historic country estate comprises an impressive main house, called Dower House, and a romantic English cottage outbuilding, known as Bothy Cottage.
Built in 1952 by Eric Akers Douglas, 3rd Viscount Chilston, the property was bought by the late musician Eric Woolfson of the Alan Parsons Project in 1987 and is currently owned by his wife, Sally. The couple renovated the Dower House, converting it from a one-bedroom to a four-bedroom house.
“It’s an indulgent space,” said Duncan Petrie, listing agent from Savills.
The structures sit among 13.24 acres of gardens complete with a Victoria bathing pool, inspired by the nearby Gardens at Sissinghurst.
Stats
The 5,022-square-foot main house, the Georgian-style Dower House, has four bedrooms and three bathrooms.
At 1,330 square feet, Bothy Cottage comprises two bedrooms and one bathroom. The grounds also feature stables.
Amenities
The Dower House features a drawing room with a dance floor, a library and a garage. The kitchen is adorned with hand-painted cabinets, granite work surfaces and a three-door Aga oven.
Bothy Cottage perfectly serves as a guest house, Mr Petrie said. The space, which was previously used as the Woolfsons’ music studio, is equipped with a full kitchen, sitting room, and views of the gardens.
Neighborhood Notes
Kent is a rural area neighboring London, easily accessible by car to both London as well as Europe, and offering train services from Lenham station directly to London Victoria and Ashford stations. People who have grown up in Kent often return to raise their own families. The schools are very good and the county is especially sought after for this reason.
Residents of the area mostly enjoy walks or bike rides along the tranquil country roads.
