889 women raped this year: ASK

Human rights advocacy organisation Ain O Salish Kendra on Monday alleged that about 889 women were raped during January to August this year.
Officials of the organisation said it in a human chain formed at Manik Mia Avenue on Mirpur Road demanding exemplary punishment for perpetrators.
They also alleged that about 41 women were killed after raping.
According to the statistics of the organization, about 111 women were raped on an average in every month this year.
It said that rape, torturer and sexual harassment and violence on the women are on rise in the country.
Their statistics showed also that about 1413 women were raped and 76 of them were killed after raping in 2019 in the country. 10 women were compelled to commit suicide in the aforesaid period.
In 2018, 732 female and 818 were raped in 2017.
Protesting the rise in incidents of rape, killing and sexual abuse, ASK demanded immediate investigation into the incidents and arrest the criminals quickly.
Holding banners and placards at least 50 staff members of the rights organisation formed the human chain for half an hour from 11:00am.
ASK also demanded that the government must ensure justice for the victims and establish a women-friendly state.
A Chakma woman was gang-raped in Khagrachhari, a housewife was gang-raped in Sylhet, and a teenage girl was stabbed to death in Savar while two teenage girls were gang-raped in Benapole recently.
