UNB, Dhaka :
Railways Minister M Mujibul Hoque on Sunday said the government will soon deploy around 8,000 Ansar personnel across the country to strengthen security measures to deal with any possible act of sabotage on railway tracks.
He said, the Ansar personnel will work with the regular Government Railway Police (GRP) and RNB to ensure security for the smooth rail communication and safety of railway passengers.
The decision was taken at an inter-ministerial meeting held at the Railway Bhaban in the city with Mujibul Hoque in the chair.
He also said, a 12-member security and monitoring committee comprising representatives from the police, Ansar, LGRD and Home Ministry has been formed with Railways Additional Secretary Kamol Krishna Bhattacharya as its head.
While beginning the meeting, the Railways Minister said there are 1,441 risky spots and some 334 trains run across the country.
He urged the local representatives at the union-to-district level to join hands in preventing any act of sabotage, sniper attacks and any form of terror activities centering railway communication. “We’re more alert than before. We’re strengthening monitoring
in every possible way,” he said. Apart from regular railway security forces, police and BGB men will be deployed for tightening security measures, the minister said.
He said, the rail communication will remain as usual despite blockade programme called by the BNP and its allies, and mentioned that in some cases there are incidents of delay as train moves with extra caution.
“It’s our responsibility to help passengers reach their destination safely. We’ll do whatever necessary for it,” Mujibul Hoque said.
Additional Railways Secretary M Mansur Ali Shikdar, Railway DG M Amzad Hossain, Ansar and VDP DG Maj Gen M Nazim Uddin were also present.
