A customs preventive team arrested a man and recovered eight gold bars, weighing 800 grams, after their release from his rectum at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the city early Saturday.
The arrestee was identified as Mohammad Kamal, a resident of Comilla district.
Assistant commissioner (Preventive) Rezaul Karim of the customs said
Kamal came to Dhaka from Malaysia by a flight of Malaysian Airlines that landed at the airport around 5:25am. Tipped off, customs officials challenged Kamal while he was crossing the green zone of the airport.
Interrogated, Kamal admitted that he was carrying the eight gold bars kept hidden inside his rectum through a special process. The gold bars were released from his bowl. The market value of the gold is Tk40 lakh.
