70 mobile food testing labs to be set up in dists

Government has initiated to establish 70 mobile food testing labs in 64 districts soon to stop food adulterations.
“We have planned to establish those food testing labs to ensure food safety in the country,” said Food Minister Shadhon Chandra Majumder during a Parliamentary Committee meeting on food safety in the Parliament Bhaban recently.
The Minister said also that the government also plans to make a law in this
 regard. He said that the testing labs would be established with the financial assistance of US Aid.
“Fruits, vegetables, fishes, meats and other food items will be tested through those labs to be sure whether those are adulterated with carbide or other harmful chemicals,” said the Food Minister.
Syeda Sarwar Jahan, Chairman of Bangladesh Food Safety Authority said, the checking of food adulterations by the mobile court had started recently.
After establishing those testing laboratories, the anti-adulterations drives will be stronger.
She said there are 18 agencies involvement between food productions and distribution among consumers.
“It is highly important to strengthen adequate coordination among all of those agencies to ensure food safety,” she said.
She said the government is trying to recruit more manpower for food safety authority to ensure the agency’s proper activities.
