7 months arrear pay and reopening of jute mills demanded

Agitated workers and staff of Barishal Sonargaon Textile Mills demanding payment of arrear seven months salary and opening of locked down mill on Monday noon holding agitation rally blocked Barishal-Patuakhali-Kuakata highway.
As a result the movement of vehicular disrupted on the highway for an hours, confirmed Nurul Islam, officer in charge of Barishal Kotwali Police Station.
Bngladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) Barishal district and City unit also organised protest rally in support of the workers movement at the same place and time.
Dr. Manisha Chakraborty, member secretary of district BSD, said Sonagaon Textile Ltd, one of the biggest industrial units of the Barishal region. The mill was declared closed since March 26 and at least 600 hundred workers unpaid for seven month.
So we are demanding proper solution of the problem extended support to their movement, Dr. Manisha added.
Workers blocked the road in front of Sonargaon Textile Mills around 11am on Monday and they lifted the road blockade after an hour on the assurance of the owner to pay the arrears including opening two units of the mill in November and another one in December, said Md. Harun, a worker of the mill. Officer-in-Charge of the police station said the road blockade was withdrawn and agitation rally dispersed after negotiation and assurance of the mill authourity about paying arrear dues and opening the mill.
According to the agitated mill workers, the authorities announced lockdown of Sonargaon Textile Mills from March 26 to April 4 this year in the name of preventing corona pandemic. After that the mills was declared lay off from April 5 for indefinite period without paying the wages of the workers.
Manager of the mill, Md. Salauddin Chowdhury said they are trying to solve the problem and it was created mostly due to corona pandemic.
However the agitated workers and employees cautioned that they will start an indefinite blockade on December 1 if the two units of the mills would not be opened as per assurances of the authority.
